High Speed Railway

High Speed Railway

The Hungarian presidency of the Visegrad Group aims at a quick restart of the economy in the four countries – the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary –, an essential condition of which consists in a good infrastructure, and railway is the primary tool of its implementation on our journey towards a climate-neutral Europe.

The development of the V4 High Speed Railway, a priority project of this ambition, requires Hungary and the V4 partner countries to join the high speed railway network of Western Europe. Fast, safe, reliable, modern, sustainable and environmentally friendly railway is a prerequisite of reinforcing the economic connections within the region and of the possible cross-border effects of economic development, too. Another important aspect is that the infrastructure to be created must contribute to the solution to poor domestic capacity by taking some traffic off of currently frequented railway lines, already at their capacity limits, as well as by opening up more space for the increase of traditional passenger and freight transport. Competitiveness with air and road transport in terms of travel time, comfort and prices is important in case of business trips as well as tourism.

The conference allows a peek into what progress each country has achieved in terms of developments, and what products are offered to the V4 countries by manufacturers of high speed railway technology.
